How to make chocolate birds nest

Chocolate birds nest cookies can be whipped up in a flash. All you need is milk chocolate, butterscotch chips, chow mein noodles, and candy eggs. Go for top-quality milk chocolate so that it melts smoothly and effortlessly, and the taste is delicious. Melted chocolate makes the nest’s branches look more realistic and perfectly brown, like twigs.

You can use whatever candy eggs you like. Just make sure they’re mini-sized to be small enough to fit in the nests. Ones in a variety of colors look super-adorable and like tiny baby bird eggs.

Chow mein noodles make up the “nest” part of the cookie recipe. An unexpected choice, maybe? But it works so well. Its blend of sweet and salty adds an extra hit of flavor to this treat. Where can you find chow mein noodles? In the Asian section of your local grocery store.

If you have kids, get them involved and have fun with this easy recipe. They’ll be so proud of the pretty cookies they’ve created without much fuss. To keep the kitchen extra clean, you could even melt the chocolate in the microwave instead of on the stovetop.

Ready to get creative? Luckily this recipe is very versatile. Depending on your tastes, you could swap out the butterscotch chips for smooth peanut butter. Or caramel, or even all three. Why choose?

Got lots of little visitors coming over for Easter? This birds nest dessert makes the perfect gift for the holidays. Plus, if you use cupcake liners, they’re super-easy to transport.

Below are the simple step-by-step instructions for how to make the chocolate birds nest cookies.

  1. Bring a saucepan of water to a low simmer.

  1. Place a heatproof metal bowl over the saucepan.

  1. Break up the chocolate and add them to the bowl.

  1. Mix in the butterscotch chips. Whisk to combine.

  1. Make sure the chocolate never boils. Take the bowl off the heat if needed.

  1. Keep stirring until the chocolate and butterscotch chips are melted and smooth. Then take off the heat.

  1. To the bowl, add the chow mein noodles. Mix so that the noodles are completely coated with the chocolate and butterscotch mixture.

  1. Line a muffin tray with paper or cupcake liners. It will help remove the cookies once they’ve set.

  1. Spoon the noodle mixture into each muffin section. Use the spoon to shape it into a nest.

  1. Next, place the candy eggs into the middle of each cookie. You can add as many eggs as you like.

  1. Allow at least 10 minutes for the nests to set. When firm, carefully remove the cookies from the muffin tray.

  1. Now serve and enjoy!

You can store these cookies for up to 5 days in an airtight container. Keep them in the fridge or a cool place. If you want them to last a long time, you may have to hide them. They’re irresistible!
