When is World Chocolate Day Celebrated?

A festival dedicated entirely to the quintessential "Food of the Gods": chocolate. Established in 2009, 7 July is World Chocolate Day, because it was on this date in 1847 that Joseph Fry created the very first chocolate bar as we know it today.

Until then, chocolate was mainly consumed as a beverage, but Fry discovered that simply adding melted cocoa butter to cocoa powder made it into a mouldable mixture that, once solidified, became an edible bar, just like our Venchi Chocolate Bars. A wonderful discovery worthy of celebration!

Unmissable chocolate fairs and festivals

Throughout the year, there are lots of events to celebrate one of the world's most popular sweet treats. Here are some details about the best chocolate fairs and festivals dedicated not only to those who love this wonderful ingredient, but to more curious people longing to uncover the secrets behind how it’s made and for inspiration for their own sweet recipes.

EuroChocolate

More than 20 years after its first edition, EuroChocolate remains the quintessential artisan chocolate festival. It's celebrated every year in October in Perugia and brings together exceptional local producers and those from cocoa-producing countries. Here visitors are taken on a fascinating journey through unexpected flavours and new blends.

Cioccolatò in Turin

After a two-year absence, 2022 marks the grand return of Cioccolatò, Turin's chocolate festival held between October and November. Here, in the home of the Gianduiotto, lots of activities for young and old take place, including workshops led by expert Master Chocolatiers and guided tasting sessions for visitors to discover and celebrate the very best of artisan chocolate.

ChocoModica

As well as Turin and Perugia, Modica is renowned for its chocolate, and, naturally, this Sicilian commune has its own dedicated festival too.

In keeping with tradition, this year’s Modica chocolate festival—also known as ChocoModica—will once again take place during the Feast of the Immaculate Conception in the city's historic town centre, and will involve producers from all over Italy with food stands dedicated to chocolate from Modica and more.

There are lots of savoury dishes containing chocolate for you to make and impress your guests with, like Carnaroli Risotto with dark chocolate or Fassona Tartare with Venchi Chocoviar.

No party is complete without a toast, so to celebrate World Chocolate Day, there’s nothing better than a fresh, mouth-watering chocolate-based cocktail enjoyed at sunset with your closest friends.
